Very Fragile

| Be the First to Comment | Share or bookmark this post: Bookmark and Share

The mess going on in New Orleans because of the hurricane just highlights for me how very fragile civility really is. And I suspect that the almighty economy is just about equally as fragile. Gasoline shot up on average 30 cents a gallon from the time I went to work this morning until the time I left work this evening. People are already in panic mode here. I saw long lines at every station I passed on the way home. Heavens!

I suspect that many an extreme right wing fundamentalist church pastor will have a field day this Sunday with diatribes about God's judgement on Sodom and Gomorra: New Orleans and all of the casinos and gambling establishments up and down the Mississippi River. Yes, civility will probably be in even more short supply this Sunday as well.

Another Enhanced Podcast Creation Tool

I've just found another enhanced podcast creation tool. I'm writing about it now before trying it, so I won't forget the URL. Podcast AV is still beta and is freeware. I don't have time to try it because I'm sitting here waiting to get my haircut. :o)

Podcast Crazy

I've been doing several podcasts now for work. I've about got the process down pat! If you are into making enhanced podcasts, I highly recommend ChapterToolMe! It certainly has room for improvement, but it is by far the best tool for the task to date.

My work website, which has only been up a couple of months, has served up over 1,200,000 hits and, for the last week, has been averaging over 36,000 hits per day. My god! I just find this amazing!

Best Bumper Sticker Ever

Today I saw the best bumper sticker I think I've ever seen. At first I didn't get it. The bumper sticker didn't make sense. Bush was never in Vietnam. Then it all filled in and was really great humor on multiple levels. But, at the same time, it is very sad.

At least in Vietnam
Bush had an exit strategy!

A New Record

I am convinced that in all of my life I have never seen with my own eyes the number of fallen trees I have seen this summer, and I grew up on the hurricane beltway!

Tonight, on the way to dinner, a tree feel across the 5 lane road "smack dab" on top of a passing SUV! I just missed it! The force of the weight of the tree immediately stopped the vehicle. I can only imagine what an incomprehensible shock that must have been to the driver. The car behind the SUV smashed into the tree which, luckily I suppose, completely covered the SUV without crunching it flat. In fact, the SUV didn't look very damaged from what I could see through the branches.

People jumped out of their vehicles and rushed to the cars. I don't know if anyone was seriously injured.

When I came home from dinner, the wrecked car was removed and the SUV remained tucked away in its vegetative state. The power in the area was knocked out when the tree took down the power lines. Police cars were directing the traffic through the obstacle course. I suspect they will wait until morning so they can see how best to free the SUV.

It sounds like an activist's cry: "Free the SUV!"

Cobb County 1 to 1 Laptop Initiative Is Dead

I loath ignorance and arrogance and all of the evil children they spawn. As one educator said to me, "I thought the former governor could no longer harm the children in the state of Georgia when he was voted out of office, but I guess I was wrong."

The powerful efforts of a very few evil, dishonest men won out in the short term. As a result, the children of this county have been robbed and will suffer substantive disadvantage when they enter the global job market. In my opinion a criminal act has been perpetrated! The citizens of Cobb County will look back on this time when they are frantically trying to catch up with the children every place else on earth.

Ignorance, arrogance, and lots of money in the hands of a very few kept people in the dark ages. Little has changed!

Change Congress

Change Congress

I believe we need to return government to "of the people, by the people, and for the people"—not a radically new idea, really.

I invite you to explore Larry Lessig's Change Congress initiative.
