Global Warming

This absolutely must be the warmest February on record! No, I take that back, the warmest winter in the Atlanta area on record. It is now 66º outside!

OK, I'm being pedantic, but I promised I would post!

Congratulations! Year 12 and counting. Keep it up. As I said in 2005, I've put your 25th on the calendar.

Dear Blog,

I have ignored you. I am sorry. People have complained to me for not attending to you. I must confess that I have been very busy. I will try to write more now.
Sincerely,

Republicans needed no legitimate justification for going to war in Iraq but demand irrefutable scientific certainty before saving the planet from global warming!

Sheila Has a New Friend

Kdl40V2500My high definition series three TiVo, named Sheila, now has a new friend to play with:  a Sony KDL-40V2500.  I had no idea the Discovery channel was so gorgeous in high definition!  It blew my socks off!

In only 10 - 15 minutes, I had everything hooked up and working.  This TV has a gorgeous image, and it fits perfectly inside the armoire--as if it were made for it.  But best of all, it was on sale, almost half the price being charged just before Christmas time!  Something newer, better, and even more delightful must be afoot?

Bill Gates Is VERY Bitter!

| Be the First to Comment | Share or bookmark this post: Bookmark and Share

Bill is showing himself to be a bit more than a little defensive in this interview!  And I love the PC guy, who Bill mentions, going in for surgery so he can be upgraded to run Vista.  Bill is quick to forget he really only had about 1 new idea, and that goes way back to MS DOS?!

And, Bill, for the record, the challenge to hack the Mac OS was issued over at Daring Fireball.  There was a blaze of internet usage as people repeatedly tried to attack his little Mac.  And why not try, he offered a free computer to anyone who could do it!!  No one did.  It wasn't even done once.  Not uno.  Let's stick to the truth here, shall we?  Windows is hacked on virtually a daily basis, not the Mac OS.

And now Windows invented it all first?!  Is this guy on something really serious?!

... Interviewer:  In many of the Vista reviews, even the positive ones, people note that some Vista features are already in the Mac operating system.

Bill:  You can go through and look at who showed any of these things first, if you care about the facts. If you just want to say, "Steve Jobs invented the world, and then the rest of us came along," that's fine.  [Oops!  A little personal jealousy here????  A spot of bitterness perhaps????]  If you’re interested, [Vista development chief] Jim Allchin will be glad to educate you feature by feature what the truth is. I mean, it’s fascinating, maybe we shouldn't have showed so publicly the stuff we were doing, because we knew how long the new security base was going to take us to get done.

Nowadays, security guys break the Mac every single day. Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine. So, yes, it took us longer, and they had what we were doing, user interface-wise. Let’s be realistic, who came up with [the] file, edit, view, help [menu bar]? Do you want to go back to the original Mac and think about where those interface concepts came from? ...

The superintendent for Georgia's public schools came to visit our school yesterday.  She brought with her a number of guests from the UK.  What a delight to be chosen for this recognition!

Change Congress

Change Congress

I believe we need to return government to "of the people, by the people, and for the people"—not a radically new idea, really.

I invite you to explore Larry Lessig's Change Congress initiative.
